As the Tour de Yorkshire starts tomorrow I thought it would be a good chance to do some people practice based on cycling. Admittedly drawing people is not my strong point, but there are elements that I am happy with and have learnt that it’s when I try to add too much detail that I overwork things. For my next people practice I will try and draw bigger if I want to add detail, or try and be more fluid with my sketching style. I remember being inspired by Giacometti figure drawings in a life drawing class about 10 years ago, making the final piece based on a series of straight lines and I’d quite like to try something along those lines again to move away from the expectation I have of the human form. My hubby and I are watching White Collar as our evening wind-down and there was an episode about forging signatures upside down to escape the brain’s habit of how to write the alphabet, maybe I should sketch my people upside down next time!
