I’ve never been good at doodling ‘shapes,’ I need a purpose or a reference point, hence struggling with zentangle (structured patterns/doodles.) When I picked it out the other day I had to base it on a building rather than a random page of patterns and marks. Today (Day 26) was my chance to sit and ‘doodle’ on a blank page, and I have to say I think it’s the entry I’m most critical of to date. I’ll be honest, I didn’t enjoy doing it which is never a good start and I think that shows, and is why my pages aren’t finished. It took all my energy not to take the rubber out, erase everything and start again, but it’s all a stage of learning and I decided to leave it and move on. This isn’t meant to be a negative post – I often learn the most when things don’t go well and the whole point of doing #the100dayproject was to challenge myself to improve. Give me a pattern to design for fabric etc and I’m happy, so maybe I should see this as creating a series of marks to be used in future patterns to make it less daunting.
