Walking down the Kings Rd at the weekend we walked past this shop, which stood out not because of it’s amazing shoes but because of the sign above the door. Being a retail designer I get easily distracted by shop design, but not often because of a name. Is a memorable name always a good thing, even if for the wrong reason? To me it should represent the brand and my initial thought was that R.Soles is not a positive representation for a shop that wants to be taken seriously, but then again it still there after 35 years so maybe it just makes people smile as they walk past. I would love to see more independent shops like this on the high street.

What do you think? Clever play on words, ill-judged choice, or just funny? Either way I’d be interested to hear your thoughts so please leave a comment below.

I saw the shop over 30 years ago and it made me smile. I love names that make you look and think twice and like you, I’d love to see more independents in all High Streets.
