‘Don’t let the temporary setbacks become permanent excuses’ (Angela Duckworth.)

This is my new motto as we head into 2019. We all get setbacks, we all get rejected, but we need to learn to get back up again, dust ourselves off and keep pushing for the things we believe in. 2018 amongst the successes has been a year of setbacks and challenges for me, but also the year I decided to re-brand, have an overhaul of my businesses and picked myself up after maternity leave.

Let’s face it, the economy post Brexit is looking anything but great, and working in retail and construction, as an interior designer specialising in retail, this has never been more prevalent than right now. My day job work has declined, and I could go into panic mode but instead it’s my opportunity to push myself to explore other avenues, pick myself up and keep going as Accidental Vix Sews and Accidental Vix Prints.

I signed up for The Sketchbook Project┬álast summer thinking it would be a good idea to get back into sketching again. In reality I’ve had to work twice as hard recently to bring money in to support my family to make up for the steady income I’ve been used to for 6 years as a self employed interior designer, slowly decline to very little. So now I’ve got a big last minute push to fill my sketchbook that has been sat neglected on my desk, and send it to New York in time for it to make it into the Brooklyn Art Library, alongside my other 4 sketchbooks. I’m waffling a bit now, but the point is that architecture is such a big part of my life that I thought it was about time I combined my love of sketching, architecture and new found motivation from Leona as part of her Indie Roller Membership Group. So here are the first few pages, as I jump over the temporary setbacks and continue at break neck speed to get it to NYC in time.
