As you may know I am an interior designer by day, specialising in retail design. This means that it’s ‘site meeting season’ as my clients want their new shops open in time for Christmas, and although this means a few early starts (two 4am starts in the space of a week) it also means some new inspiration. Admittedly, I don’t get to see much apart from an aiport/car/train and building site but there can still be inspiration in those limited spaces. So, here are some of my fave snippets of my work over the last week:

  • It was a 3.45am start for a meeting in Dublin a couple of weeks ago, and I was full of cold/fever so the flight wasn’t too pleasant, but I found a spot to sit and nurse my aching bones whilst I waited for my flight back and discovered an area that reflects my ideas and colours for my new studio which is being built at the moment
  • Last Monday was a nostalgic day as it took me back to Nottingham for the first time since I graduated a decade ago, and the city has changed a lot since I was there, but it was good to see familiar uni buildings still there amongst the new ones. It did make me feel old though being surrounded by freshers – that was me 14 years ago!
  • The last of my recent trips was to picturesque Abersoch on the Welsh coast. I love quaint seaside towns, the pastel colours of the buildings, smell of the sea and bright little boats. Lunch with this view beat the usual views of shopping centres on work trips, and almost made up for the 9hr round trip and 4am start.

What’s your most inspirational place in the UK, or your local area?
